Some people can be very unfortunate in this thing called life. Life can cause them to question the very veracity of the existence of God and whether he still cares if he does.
Our patient stood on the brink of that scenario when, having had to undergo two surgeries that necessitated the pulling out of an end of her intestine to the outside through her abdomen to allow diversion of faeces for about 4 months, she was almost killed when her village was raided by herdsmen two months ago.
Her husband fell to his death when he lost his footing from atop a story building he was roofing as he was a carpenter. A wood plunged through his stomach and he died before he could be taken to the hospital.
To make matters worse, she could raise only 10 thousand naira over a period of 3 months meant to offset her final surgery and accumulated money owed the hospital earlier for her previous surgeries that were done almost gratis. She had to be sent home and the surgery postponed yet again. She cried her eyes out but there was nothing we could do. That was when we intensified the campaign to source for funds for her from all of you here.
A month after she was asked to look hard for the money, she went from one church to another seeking help. She could only get 50 thousand naira.
Before corrective surgery, she was transfused, hydrated and given prophylactic antibiotics.
In the end, we pleaded with a surgeon who agreed to join us for the surgery for a token.
We had the surgery on Monday and it was successful! She is currently recuperating but we still are owing the hospital a chunk of money.
We made N146k here. We needed 300k. She came around with N70k, leaving us with a deficit of N94k.
As we have said, it is all about our patient's life! We will try to do everything there is to help the poor get standard care as is obtainable in the city center. I am a happy man today, you should be too. This is your victory as well. This is the first face of the recovery and we are praying she makes a perfect one. Thank you everyone for all you have done. God bless you. I shall keep you updated.
