After the appendix operation, we had to operate again for ovarian torsion!
Remember last week we brought the report of an orphan who had an acute appendicitis that was operated upon and she needed about 30 thousand naira, about $75, to offset her bills, and a certain young man offered to clear up the bills with 50k? Well, she is hail and hearty now and was discharged yesterday.

Today the rural doctor initiative wishes to celebrate one of our partners in standard rural heath delivery.
As a senior medical officer in charge of the accident and emergency unit of a major tertiary facility in Plateau state, Jos, Dr. Victor Anokwuru has been of tremendous help as regards patient referrals and optimal care. Before coming here to post this, I had ranted. Ranted to myself, my couch, laptop, television, just about everything and anything that cared to listen. Therefore, I would post calmly and collectedly now. I have unloaded the anger.
Most of my posts that luckily find their way to the rural doctor initiative platform and attract an audience reflect the life styles and activities of the average rural dweller: the conditions they live with and in, the incomparable dystopia they subsist within, the deplorable health system they contend with and the pathetic inexorable hardship that is a way of life for them.
I walked straight to my bed at about 7am and dove in. Sleep met me mid-air before I even touched the surface of the bed almost instantaneously.
The preceding hours had been tortuous. I first got a call from the hospital at about 9.30pm. Emma, once again, was on duty. A young man and his wife had brought a female baby whom I reckoned was rather too small for age from my perspective.
Our doctors on RDI will be partaking in a week long seminar on hepatitis put together by worthy works group, a group of specialist in hepatitis, to help optimize our knowledge in the field as we continue to manage victims of this viral infection.
This 23-yr-old female student was brought to the facility limping. I first guessed she had had a sprain or strain of her joints of muscles as the case may be.
She had actually been burnt by the exhaust pipe of a motor bike when she had an accident on it.
VIEWERS DISCRETION
The FRSCN brought in this woman who suffered a fracture of the distal third of the Right tibia and fibula and a laceration of the Achilles tendon from a road traffic accident.
This 16month old child was brought to the facility after she had spent 4 days in a peripheral makeshift quack clinic where she was being managed for symptoms that included fever, loose stool, vomiting and weakness. Upon realizing that she was not improving, the mother summon the courage to bring her to us. When we saw her, she was completely lifeless, her eyes were sunken, you could literary lift the skin from her body. She was also pale. She was still having diarrhea and she convulsed once. The parents had written her off. Well, God didn't.
We managed and discharged this adorable angel 4 days ago. The mother had approached a quack after the baby would not stop passing watery stool, vomiting, coughing and having constant fever. The man kept giving some injections until some good advocate of the facility saw the situation and advised her to rush down to our place.
In this rural area, we haven't had power for over 2 months and counting now, little wonder the video is dark. Bear with us.
Valentine came early for me when Bangeskiya(Faith) our miracle baby girl visited us in the clinic yesterday, saturday, it was a beautiful moment. |
