We managed and discharged this adorable angel 4 days ago. The mother had approached a quack after the baby would not stop passing watery stool, vomiting, coughing and having constant fever. The man kept giving some injections until some good advocate of the facility saw the situation and advised her to rush down to our place.
We immediately commenced management. History, examination and investigation led us to sepsis r/o malaria as our diagnosis with moderate dehydration. We commenced treatment and one of the remarkable things I have always loved about children is their spontaneity in response to treatment. In no distant time, our adorable baby was sucking and playful again. Mother was tearful and thankful as the initial condition scared the hell out of her. She practices exclusive breastfeeding and that is why the baby appears very healthy at just 4months. It also helped our management too. Without the rural doctor initiative in the rural area, correct diagnosis wouldn't have been made and consequently proper treatment won't be given. A healthy baby as this would have been lost. Mother is happy, baby is happy, health workers are happy. RDI.. Everyone deserves good health.
